Wrinkles Under Eyes: How To Get Rid of It With Home Remedies

Do you have wrinkles under eyes? Don’t worry it is a common part of aging. They are also known as crow’s feet. Some people call them smile lines, regardless of their name no one likes them. We all want to remove creases around our eyes as they make us look tired. The major cause of wrinkles or fine lines is the lack of collagen in our skin – an essential protein that keeps the skin elasticized.

What causes wrinkles under eyes

There are numerous causes for wrinkles around eye area and most of the causes are related to the process of aging and unhealthy lifestyle leading to bad habits. Below is an overview of these causes.

Wrinkles under Eyes

As already mentioned, the main cause of under eye wrinkles is the lack of collagen, so when our skin deteriorates and stops producing the required amount of collagen, its elastin weakens. Lack of collagen can occur due to natural ageing process or it can be the result of hormonal ageing. Hormonal ageing occurs around your menopause years. When the production of collagen collapses, our skin is unable to keep itself hydrated and firmed as much as it did with collagen.

Consequently, wrinkles become deeper and more noticeable. The skin around our eyes already lacks oil producing glands and is very thin as compared with the rest of the facial skin so with the weakened elastin, the skin beneath eyes rapidly gets wrinkled.

Most people wonder what causes wrinkles under eyes, even when their ageing process has not started yet. There could be other reasons to it as well. If you don’t wear sunglasses, you give way to wrinkles under eyes. Not wearing sunglasses for whatever reason will make you squint during sun exposure hence cause creases in the eye area. These creases will ultimately turn into fine lines and wrinkles when squinting becomes a habit for a long period of time.

Moreover, when we are extremely tired, we rub our eyes, sometimes unintentionally. Although it feels good and eases our tired itchy eyes but if you want to get rid of under eye wrinkles, then you should stop rubbing your eyes in the first place. Rubbing back and forth develops fine lines sooner than anything and consistently doing this will cause faster and deeper wrinkles around eyes.

Another bad habit that boosts wrinkles is sleeping on your belly because it makes one side of your face squished towards the other side for many hours. Constantly sleeping like this creates sleep lines and creasing on your face around eyes that ultimately turns into wrinkles. Sun also damages your skin so constant sun exposure can also cause wrinkles under eyes because skin around eyes is thin and is badly affected by sun rays.

Eye Massage

Eye massage works wonders in getting rid of wrinkles under eyes. Pour a few drops of olive oil or coconut oil on your fingers and massage gently in circular motions. Keep doing it until the oil absorbs in your skin. Don’t rub chaotically, instead do it gently into the same direction clock wise or anti clock wise in small circular movements and ensure you put an even pressure on every spot under your eyes.

Massage boosts blood circulation towards eyes and it is beneficial for your eyesight as well. Massage twice a day with olive oil or any other oil containing vitamin E.

Exercise strengthens muscles in under eye area and it helps reducing wrinkles and prevents droopiness in your skin. Put your middle finger on your eyelid and try lifting it upwards by producing movement in muscles of your eyes. When fingers are lifted, stay in that position for 3-5 seconds and then release your eye muscles. Repeat this exercise at least 10 times a day and do it on regular basis.
